@Viktor.

The trophies that made you play the games again on a harder difficulty are great achievements, as they didn't dictate how you played. The one you get in Warhawk for hosting a server is brilliant!

I can see why you say that the PS3-version of Fallout 3 is "inferior" since good achievement can enhance gameplay. I've only played Fallout 3 on my 360 once this far and I haven't looked at the achievement list. I think I got two achievements; one for creating a character and one for just leaving the vault in the beginning on the game. I like those, since they are progression based.

Hopefully, for your sake, Bethesda will release a trophy patch for the game.

Unfortunately I don't know the complete list of trophies for the PixelJunk games, even though I own and love them all. Regarding the ones I do know however; I agree that some are just insane.

I find you "challenge"-idea interresting in theory. It's too bad though that they are not applicable in Sony's nor Microsoft's award systems today.

Now, this will be a long comment! :D

I'm a trophy whore! I was totally let down when I noticed that my version of Fallout 3 did NOT have trophies/achievments. I'm a level 7 something on PSN, don't quite know and really don't care. I'm however totally prepared to sell my copy of Fallout 3 without progressing further. Because, I KNOW, that when/if Bethesda releases the trophy patch I WILL be there replaying the game ONE MORE TIME. So I might just wait until the trophy patch arrives so I get the complete experience when I play it the first time. Why should my version of the game be inferior to the 360?

I recently finished Dead Space on the PS3 and took all trophies. They were well balanced and also made me play through the game on the hardest difficulty, something I probably would not have done if there wasn't a trophy for it. And it was a blast because that game really gets a lot more scary and tenser on a harder difficulty level. I played through the game three times thanks to trophy support and it never got boring.

Now, just like Arcade points out there are games that do great trophies and there are games that do very bad ones. Warhawk on the Playstation 3 has one trophy for hosting a server: this is community supporting and a great way to utilize the system. Warhawk also has a trophy which requires you to grind hundreds of online hours to achieve it. And some trophies are just insanely hard like PixelJunk Eden and PixelJunk Monsters and don't really feel rewarding enough for completing them.

Now, for an idea, I'd like to see a system where I could "challenge" Arcade and create our own trophy/achievment. For example I'd challenge arcade on my PSN Friendslist. The first one to finish the game or the first one to complete a certain goal wins a little something or just the honor. Every game could have a lot of different custom "challenge" achievments and trophies and let friends battle it out to see who is the fastest or who is more skilled on a certain gameplay element!

Really good read. As earlier mentioned; really good subjects and points as well. I couldn't agree more when it comes to good and bad achievements. Although I can understand people that likes the challenge achievements as it gives them an even further sense of accomplishment as when e.g a singe player game is completed.

Keep up the good work Arcade! \m/

@ sl1ck731

There we go! Unfortunately I'm not well versed with the achievements in World of Warcraft; I stopped playing it years ago.

I greatly appreciate you letting me know.

Glad you liked the post!

Very good read and points. I do not know how much you know of World of Warcraft, but a recent implementation of an achievement system also forces people to not pay attention to their goals. Something like capture this many flags forces people to try and spam a flag instead of killing those trying to stop it.
