Global Game Jam
There's an international game creation competition called Global Game Jam (even better than Strawberry jam) and I just wanted to give a shout out to the Swedish branch.

Each country as I understand it has their own competition, with different branches but they're all a part of the big Global Game Jam. One of my very close friends is Project Manager over at Gothia Science Park, the ones holding the Swedish branch this year. It's the first year Sweden is a part of it.
The Global Game Jam (GGJ) was founded in 2008 as an IGDA event to broaden the outreach of the organization while giving the world an opportunity to create games in the world’s largest Game Jam to date. The 1st Annual Global Game Jam was held January 30-Feburary 1, 2009 to much critical acclaim and success. With over 1600 participants in 23 countries, the GGJ produced 370 games.

If you participate, you're placed in a team and you're supposed to create a game within 48 hours. Awesome! Have a look if there's a Game Jam in your country as well.
And if you're in Sweden, why not join? I have, so maybe we'll end up in the same team?
See you there!
The Arcade Experience
I could go on and on with crappy puns and how this post could be about a steamy night spent with me but this post is actually about arcade games in Skövde, Sweden.
It's a quite sad story actually. The other night me and a friend went to rent a movie. It's the first time in many, many years I've actually rented a physical movie. You know, the kind that's stored on a disc. Apparently, they still exist.
Once down in the basement area where "Funtime" had their movies, I saw a room with a sign that said "Spelrum" (Meaning "Game Room") and I was filled with joy! Oh boy, arcade games I thought! I gotta play!
But see, this is Sweden, a mid-sized city in Sweden at that and this is the 21th century. It's not a good combination. The amazing game room was a room with 3 games, of which one was broken and two pinball tables. That's it...
But still, they had a 2 player SEGA Rally cabinet so we had a go and I lost but man, every time I play arcade games I can't help but think how much more fun I get out the same game I could easily have played at home.
It's too bad it's pretty much impossible to find games in Sweden.
